چکیده

Dizziness is a common symptom in medical practice, and may be associated with over 300 diseases. Although most cases of dizziness are related to vestibular system dysfunction, some result from involvement of other parts of the body. Recent studies have shows that there is an association between auditory/vestibular symptoms and autonomous nervous system dysfunction, suggesting that this may be a cause of certain vestibular diseases.

Clinical Significance of the Presence of Autonomic and Vestibular Dysfunction in Diabetic Patients with Peripheral Neuropathy

BACKGROUND We investigated the prevalence of diabetic autonomic neuropathy (DAN) and vestibular dysfunction (VD) in diabetic patients with peripheral neuropathy. METHODS Thirty-five diabetic patients with peripheral neuropathy were enrolled from August 2008 to July 2009. All subjects underwent autonomic function tests. Nineteen of the patients (54.3%) underwent videonystagmography. RESULTS ...

The effects of vestibular system lesions on autonomic regulation: observations, mechanisms, and clinical implications.

The loss of labyrinthine inputs in patients or animal models has been demonstrated to affect autonomic regulation. Considerable evidence suggests that vestibular-autonomic responses serve to adjust blood pressure and respiratory activity during movement and postural alterations. However, following peripheral vestibular lesions, compensation rapidly occurs, such that autonomic disturbances are n...

Autonomic dysfunction is a major feature of cerebellar ataxia, neuropathy, vestibular areflexia 'CANVAS' syndrome.

Cerebellar ataxia, neuropathy and vestibular areflexia syndrome (CANVAS) is a recently recognized neurodegenerative ganglionopathy. Prompted by the presence of symptomatic postural hypotension in two patients with CANVAS, we hypothesized that autonomic dysfunction may be an associated feature of the syndrome. We assessed symptoms of autonomic dysfunction and performed autonomic nervous system t...
